World Book Day, 3 March 2011

We always look forward to World Book Day – it's a chance to share our love of books and reading with even more people! Here are all the things we'll be doing to celebrate World Book Day 2011.

Scholastic Children's Books

Philip Reeve, author of the award-winning Mortal Engines books, is Scholastic's World Book Day author this year and is sharing a flip book with Chris Priestly, author of the Tales of Terror series.

Reeve's novels have won almost every major children's literary prize. The epic appeal of the Mortal Engines series crosses all age barriers and sales of the series top half a million. In this special World Book Day book called Traction City, Philip takes us on a new, spine-tingling Mortal Engines adventure.

Deep down in the metal heart of the great Traction City of London, a ruthless killer is at work. The glowing green eyes of something not at all human glimmer in the rusting darkness of the Base Tier. Three men lie dead, and each one is missing a hand…

We Are Writers

Turn writers into authors this World Book Day and get free resources for your school!

World Book Day is a wonderful occasion to celebrate books, reading and writing in schools. And what better way to celebrate than to create your school's very own book and get free resources.

We Are Writers gives every child the chance to see their writing published in a real book. It's an incredible way to enthuse and excite any child about writing – and it costs absolutely nothing for a school to take part.

The project is simple to set up and run because the books are created entirely online through an easy-to-use website. Children can add stories, poems, letters, recipes – in fact, any form of writing – to the book. It can also be used to raise funds or earn books for your school through a Scholastic Book Fair.

What's more, every school that orders a sample book before Friday 11th March 2011 will get a book from Martin Waddell, Jacqueline Wilson or Philip Reeve absolutely free. Plus if a school places their final order before Friday 6th May 2011 for every 10 books ordered they will get 1 extra free.

You can find out how to run this inspiring project as a World Book Day activity in your school at www.wearewriters.com/worldbookday.
